俳句は豊かな思念を短い形式に凝縮したものではなく、自らに最適な形式を一挙に見出す短い出来事である。

　ロラン・バルト（Roland Barthes 1915年～1980年）の『表徴の帝国（L'Empire des signes）』から。前回引用した部分の続きで、俳句に関しての考察である。
　バルトはバイヨンヌやパリで子供時代を過ごしているが、生まれたのはイギリス海峡に突き出したコタンタン半島先端の港湾都市シェルブールである。
