ピエール・ド・クーベルタン男爵（ Pierre de Coubertin, 1863年～1937年 ）の名言といえば、「オリンピックは、勝つことではなく参加することに意義がある。（L'important, c'est de participer.）」が有名だが、これは彼自身の言葉ではなく、聖公会の大主教エセルバート・タルボットの言葉を、クーベルタン男爵が引用してスピーチしたことで広まったとされている。
